About Us

Congregation Ahavas Chesed is a small and caring community. We hold regular Shabbat and Holiday services, adult and youth learning opportunities, and social activities for all age groups. We are proud of how each member brings his or her own story to our diverse community—such as those who have a multi-generational history at our congregation and those new to the city or Congregation Ahavas Chesed, of all ages and backgrounds who are seeking a Jewish community – a place to call home.

Our Rabbi

Rabbi Steven Silberman has served Congregation Ahavas Chesed since 1990.  He places a priority on maintaining close relationships with the members of the synagogue and is also active in the city of Mobile as a frequent speaker in a variety of settings.

Learning

Our educational programs for kids are supported by parent volunteers, and the Rabbi leads a varied adult education program. Our goal is to provide for a lifetime of Jewish learning. We also host a small library and media center, where our members may check out materials at no charge.

Prayer & Worship

With the leadership of Alabama's longest serving congregational Rabbi, we offer worship opportunities for the whole family. Our sanctuary, constructed in 1990 provides a truly awe-inspiring space in which to build community and practice Jewish ritual life.
